of Klaus Jewelers
Quentin Klaus opened the jewelry store on April 1, 1952. The first store
was located in what was called the Three Flower Ice Cream building, which
is the present site of the Rozier's True Value parking lot now.
1953, Zeno Amschler went to work for Quentin washing windows and then
learned how to repair watches and other jewelry.
the store moved to 10 West St. Joseph St., the lower level of the old
K of C building. In 1958, the store moved to 10 North Jackson St. on the
square. This building was the old Gift Chest Jewelers and is now the Eagle
Bank drive through.
owned two stores, one here in Perryville, which he worked, and the other
store was in Ste. Genevieve, where Zeno worked from 1959-1964. In 1964,
Quentin and Zeno traded places. The present day store location in the
Perry Plaza was built in 1968.
Quentin decided to retire in 1981, he sold the Ste. Genevieve store to
Tom Stieger, who had worked for Quentin, and a year later he sold the
Perryville store to Zeno Amschler, who still owns the store and is now
in their 53rd year of business.
